Halloween Carnival Vol 2 - Various Authors  4/5 stars                                                                              I received Halloween Carnival Vol 2 in exchange for an honest review       It's hard to keep momentum going throughout an anthology series especially if the theme is Halloween. I liked this one better than the first volume because the stories here were a bit darker, and didn't start out wanting to depress you. I like where the series is going and each story presents you with something different. What I'm finding is that these stories aren't about the scares, but the atmosphere. These stories embody the dark, almost foreboding atmosphere of what the holiday is about.       It does stumble a bit, but still, it's not a...

I'm a dude and I read a Kasey Hill book!

Firefly Of Immortality (The Guardians Of Light Book 1) - Kasey Hill 4/5 stars                                                                                                                                  When Kasey gave me a copy to review I was stoked because I thought that her take on the Wizard of Oz mythos was pretty damn cool. She should a lot of promise and easily became a writer to watch for. Now we have Firefly and the premise is cool as hell. I wanted to read this and you should despite my awarding this four stars. It's a book worth reading, but the problem is that I'm a dude and this is clearly not a market that this book was intended for. If...

The Kasey Hill Interview

Image
Kasey Hill was kind enough to take some time out from her crazy schedule to answer some of my questions. Along with writing she's also involved with Fat Lip Press. Her novel The Wastelands Of Oz is available now                                              Your new novel Wastelands of Oz is a new take on the mythos of The Wizard Of Oz. How hard was it to write?  A: It wasn’t hard at all. Once I came up with the concept, it just flowed from my fingers. Where did the idea come from? A: My daughter sat and watched the Wizard of Oz for a week straight all day every day. I decided it was time for a new take on the old Oz When is the 2nd novel coming out and what can we expect? A: The second novel I plan to release next year. This one goes back to the beginning and gives a new explanation as to why the Wicked Witch became wicked. It will be ...

Joshua's Folly

Joshua's Folly - The Sacred Blade Of Profanity - Book II Toneye Eyenot 5/5       This isn't officially available yet and I don't even think that there's a pre-order link available but I couldn't actually wait until March 13 to read the second book in the Sacred Blade series. I was given an advanced copy for an honest review and I dove right in. The second book is actually a prequel which explains what led up to the first book. In Joshua things become a bit clearer and all the answers we wanted in the first book have now been answered. I also want to tell that there won't be any spoilers!        I like how Toneye did this. In any series there's always a lot of back story which usually bogs the books down, but here we have the prequel to explain how the series itself is set up. Everything was already set in motion, but the main question of why was left hanging. That allows the story to move forward and there's no more back ...

Realms Of The Dead

Realms Of The Dead - William Todd Rose 2/5                                                                Here we have two novellas in one nice convenient ebook. It's not exactly a horror story even though there are elements of horror involved. It deals more with death and the herding of wayward souls. Not what I normally read but these two novellas were actually well written and would make an excellent movie or television series. I think the main problem I had was that it seemed to drag a bit and the books themselves aren't very long. The idea of a guy herding souls like cattle sounds interesting and it is for the most part. William has a knack for telling a great story and you almost become a participant due to his various descriptions of the cutscenes.      I'm just not a big fan of these ...
